Coastal Sketch Walk: Tide, Trace & Living Movement - 30.May.2026
Join us for a coastal beach walk at Point Cartwright on the Sunshine Coast, where we will observe and draw marine life along the shoreline.
This gathering is inspired by Ollin: the Aztec-Mexica concept of movement, transformation, and renewal. Ollin reminds us that life is always in motion. Nothing stays fixed. Everything is shaped through rhythm, pressure, change, and return.
The coastline expresses this beautifully. Tides move in and out, sand shifts underfoot, waves reshape the shore, and marine life adapts to constant change. Rock pools, shells, shorebirds, crabs, seaweed, and traces in the sand all reveal a living world in motion.
For this gathering, we will slow down, walk the coast, observe what the tide reveals, and sketch the life we encounter.
Purpose: To connect with nature, observe coastal marine life, and explore drawing as a way of slowing down and noticing the movement of the shoreline.
What to Expect: We will walk along the coast at Point Cartwright, observing marine life, rock pools, shells, seaweed, shorebirds, patterns in the sand, and other signs of life shaped by the tide. We will be guided by Maisy Robson (@maisyrobson).
Throughout the walk, attendees will be invited to pause, sketch, and reflect on what they notice. This is not about creating perfect drawings. It is about observation, curiosity, and connection with the living coastline.
All drawing levels are welcome — from complete beginners to experienced artists.
We will also be picking up trash and plastics along the way.
