Intro to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - 21-Dec-2025
Join us for a beginner-friendly introduction to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at The Collective Grappling Co.
Purpose: Learn the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a safe, supportive, and fun environment—whether you’ve never stepped on the mats before or you’re just curious about what BJJ actually is.
What to Expect: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling art that uses leverage, positioning, and controlled submissions (chokes and joint locks) to neutralise an opponent. It’s widely regarded as one of the most effective martial arts for real-world self-defence for all genders and body types.
We will be led by Greg Shepherdson - @heguardo
Greg will lead you through:
A short overview of what BJJ is and how training works
Basic movements and positions (no experience needed)
A few core techniques with a strong focus on safety and control
Optional light, supervised sparring rounds to apply what you’ve learned
Greg’s Shepherdson Bio: Greg is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under UK BJJ pioneer Neil Owen. Over the 12 years he has been training BJJ, he has competed nationally and internationally. Greg is part of the coaching staff at The Collective Grappling Co. and teaches the basics class on Monday nights.
